On Q Chorus Board of Directors

Tony R. Sparks
Director

Tony has been singing publicly since 3rd grade, performing in choruses and choirs throughout secondary school and into college. At the University of Colorado, Boulder, he studied music theory and performance.

Tony has directed three men's choruses. He developed a particular love for a cappella harmony while in junior high school, and sang in his first competitive barbershop quartet in 9th grade. He eventually went on to sing for nearly 20 years with an internationally-ranked medalist quartet, Bank Street, that performed throughout the U.S. as well as in Canada and England.

Today, in addition to directing On Q, Tony is a vocal coach, arranger, and Certified Music Judge for barbershop contests. He is actively involved in promoting a cappella music and arts collaboration throughout the Albuquerque community, and especially enjoys working with young people to help ignite in them a life-long love of music.

Chelsea Ambrose
President

Chelsea came to New Mexico from Baltimore, Maryland but she’s a Tennessee girl by birth.

She has been singing since she was very young, and been in vocal training since the age of 12.

Aside from singing, she volunteers with organizations for awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence and she is a professional makeup artist.

She is also a true “Hallow-queen” and loves all things kooky, spooky and weird.

Abby White
Vice President

Abby has been singing in choirs as for as long as she's been able, but was introduced to barbershop in 2015 when she attended the New Mexico Youth Harmony Camp. It was love at first note, so after aging out of Harmony Camp, the lure of barbershop music brought Abby to On Q in 2018.

She has been singing baritone in On Q for nearly six years now and couldn't love it more. She appreciates the sense of community the choir brings and enjoys giving back to the community in turn with On Q's efforts to support young women in Albuquerque and beyond.

When she's not singing Abby enjoys baking (her rice krispie treat recipe is famous within the choir), amateur birding, and playing video games.

Brenna Moore
Secretary

Brenna grew up in a musical family and her love for singing began at a young age. She has appeared in several musicals, from Seussical the Musical to Into the Woods.

She joined On Q in 2016 and enjoys learning barbershop, listening for roots of the chord and
picardy thirds, and laughing with the rest of the On Q-ties. She loves how involved the chorus is in the community and how supportive and encouraging the chorus is to one another and to sisters everywhere.

Brenna works in the travel and tourism industry and spends her time outside, with friends or with her miniature Dachshund.

Hope Moore
Treasurer

Hope has been involved in music her whole life, starting with piano at a very young age then progressing to playing the flute throughout grade school. Through it all, she has always had a love for singing and has sung in many a church choir.

Hope found her love for barbershop in 2021 when she joined Enchanted Mesa Show Chorus. Once introduced to the barbershop community, she discovered On Q and joined in 2022.

She works as an Accounts Receivable manager and is pursuing a certificate in accounting and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

Paulette Brannan
Director of Membership

Paulette Brannan is a Lead/Tenor/Baritone and joined On Q 10 years ago in 2012. She has competed with On Q on the international stage and is a 3rd generation Barbershopper (both her dad and grandad sang here in New Mexico!)

Paulette graduated from UNM in 2011 with a BA in Fine Arts (emphasis in Musical Theatre) and has been singing since before she could talk! She also sings 1st Soprano with her mother in the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus and Alto on her church's praise team.

Paulette works as a full time nanny and loves teaching her kiddos about music and animals and art. Being in On Q has been a wonderful experience for her and she hopes to continue to help grow the chorus even more!

Michaela Fournier
Member at Large

Michaela originally joined On Q in 2012 but left to have babies in 2016 and didn’t return until 2022. She played bass clarinet and sang in high school choir and for Las Cantantes (UNM’s a capella women’s choir) where she met a former member who originally introduced her to On Q.

She loves that particular magic that comes from hearing a piece of music come alive in harmony and the camaraderie formed in making that magic together, and sings because although her ear is good, she never really learned to read music (bass clarinet parts are essentially all whole notes!). She's a kinder/1st grade combo teacher at Kirtland, but these are the oldest kids she's taught in a while. Her specialty is mostly in equity and social justice in progressive early childhood settings.

She doesn't have much free time, as she has children. But as a family, they like to road trip and swim in their pool. She has been known to crochet a Costco chicken in the wee hours of the morning.
