About Us

OnQ is Albuquerque’s premier young women’s a capella and barbershop chorus! In early August of 2009, the idea of a women’s a capella group was just starting to blossom in the minds a few determined young ladies. Finally, with a name selected, a few steady members, and a committed management team; OnQ slowly began to grow into its own independently run chorus. Now, under the direction of Elena Maietta and with over 30 members, we are moving full steam ahead and making music wherever we go.

OnQ is so happy to be a part of the youth movement of the barbershop world. We know that barbershop singing is just as enjoyable for women, so we wanted to give young ladies the opportunity to explore barbershop right here in New Mexico. Our choir explores a variety of choral forms in addition to Barbershop. Namely, collegiate a capella and contemporary choral styles have been paramount in On Q developing distinctly Rock & Roll, Pop, Classical, and R&B sounds.

Music is very important in our lives, and we hope that it is for you, too. Singing is fun and challenging, and we’ve achieved a lot by facing those challenges so far. Learning basic forms of musicality and performance techniques are important; however, OnQ’s main goal is to promote sisterhood through the love of music and song. By encouraging this harmony, we can ensure that Albuquerque has a nurturing place for young women to get together and do what we do best –sing!
